villa G
type project
reconversion
location
Sint Genesius Rode, Belgium
"This project represents a reconversion of the existing villa, with 62% of the original facade walls preserved. The new structure predominantly features expansive glazing and a flat roof with a subtly sloping canopy. This canopy is thoughtfully designed to maximize light penetration during the winter and transitional seasons while maintaining its sun-shading properties in summer. A water feature mirrors the architectural design, casting a dynamic interplay of light across the exposed concrete surfaces.
The villa, constructed in adherence to the plan libre concept, incorporates structural walls in exposed concrete, where all technical systems are integrated prior to the concrete pour. All primary living spaces are situated on a single plane at garden level, while the street level accommodates a garage and utility spaces. To ensure privacy, the solid parapet along the street side shields the villa's 3-meter-high windows, negating the need for curtains. Customized lighting installations trace elegant linear patterns throughout the interior, enhancing the architectural flow. The material palette has been deliberately restrained, emphasizing serenity and understated elegance, with warm materials chosen to imbue a sense of timeless sophistication."
